PAʻI Foundation will partner with the Bishop Museum, the Arts at Mark’s Garage and the Wailoa Art Center to plan and implement the 7th Annual MAMo. MAMo: Maoli Arts Month is a broad community-based effort to celebrate the depth, breadth and diversity of the native Hawaiian arts community, to create econommic opportunities for native Hawaiian artists and cultural practitioners by increadsing their presence in museums and galleries, and to educate locals and visitors about native Hawaiian art.

“It is important that we survive economically…but at the same time I believe indigenous artists are doubly obligated in that we carry our culture, we carry our identity in this generation. We carry it forward.”

–Herman Piʻikea Clark, Hawaiian

Originally a month-long celebration of native Hawaiian art and artists, MAMo activies are expanding and will have a year long presence with special focus of activities during April and May, 2012.
