ANNOUNCING SUPPORT FROM
THE INSTITUTE OF MUSEUM and LIBRARY SERVICES

In 2005, PA'I Foundation received a $20,000 grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to partner with the Bishop Museum to plan and implement a week-long celebration of Native Hawaiian art called the Native Hawaiian Arts Festival. The 2006 festival, modeled after the Santa Fe Indian Market, turned into a month-long celebration of native Hawaiian artists and artwork. MAMo featured numerous Native Hawaiian artists and art organizations. An offshoot of this festival was the effort to feature approximately 50 Native Hawaiian artists who held workshops and had their works displayed in Honolulu art galleries at the First Friday Walk in downtown Honolulu.
We are pleased to announce that PA'I Foundation has received a second grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Services for MAMo: Maoli Arts Month 2007

Amount: $45,485
Grant: Native American/Native Hawaiian Museum Services

The PA'I Foundation will use its grant to support three featured events in a month-long Native Hawaiian arts festival titled MAMo: Maoli Arts Month, . PA'I is organizing the festival in partnership with the Hawai'i State Art Museum and the Bishop Museum. The first IMLS-funded activity is a Friday Gallery Walk, which will highlight over fifty Native Hawaiian artists in nine different galleries in downtown Honolulu. Next is a children's art day, featuring hands-on activities that focus on Native Hawaiian art and cultural practices. The third activity is a two-day arts market hosted by the Bishop Museum, which will bring to a close the month-long festival. The market will feature over thirty-five Native Hawaiian artists and include food and entertainment

This project is made possible by a grant from the
U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services.
